Sori in all ovaries of the inflorescence, strongly hypertrophied, fusiform to long-cylindrical with an acute tip, 10–20 mm long, 1.0–1.5 mm wide (on A. calycina 60–70 × 1 mm), pale brown, at maturity rupturing longitudinally and opening to resemble a thin leaf, exposing the yellowish brown semi-agglutinated to powdery mass of spores and sterile cells.

Spores globose, subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal, 15–20 (–21) × 14–19 µm (on A. calycina 12–18 × 12–17 µm), pale to medium yellowish brown; endospore smooth, c. 0.5 µm thick; exospore with 1.0–2.5 µm high blunt to subacute warts or tubercles, (3–) 4–5 (–6) per spore diameter; spore profile wavy.

Sterile cells globose, ellipsoidal to slightly irregular, 13–25 (–32) × 12–21 µm, yellow to pale yellowish brown; wall 2.5–4.0 (–5.0) µm thick, smooth, often multilayered; contents granular.
