Sori surrounding the uppermost culms, partly hidden by leaf sheaths, at first covered by a delicate grey or lead-coloured peridium that flakes away exposing the olivaceous brown powdery mass of spores.

Spores globose to broadly ellipsoidal, 7–10 × 6.5–8.0 µm, pale yellowish brown; wall uniformly c. 0.5 µm thick, smooth in LM, finely and sparsely verruculose in SEM.
