Diagnostic Notes
Sori in swollen leaf sheaths of congested distal leaves of sterile shoots, fusiform or ventricose, 5–15 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, partly hidden by leaf sheaths, at first covered by a hispid host tissue that flakes away exposing the blackish brown semi-agglutinated to powdery mass of spores surrounding several vascular fascicles as long shreds connected with the unaffected leaf blades.

Spores solitary, subglobose, ellipsoidal to slightly irregular, 13–17 (–18.5) × 10.5–16.0 µm, yellowish brown; wall uniformly 1.0–1.5 µm thick, prominently and densely echinulate; spore profile serrulate.

Sterile cells absent.
