Adult body length approximately 10-14mm (generally smaller cockroaches than the German cockroach Blatella germanica); adult male extend beyond tip of abdomen, where has adult female wings are short and expose much of the tip of the abdomen; colour wise the pronotum and almost completely black except for the lateral margins which are clear and transparent, the wings have two light yellow or cream-colored bands across their abdomen.
