Diagnostic Notes

Female scale circular, fawn, with slightly yellow subcentral exuviae. Male scale oval with subcentral exuviae, same colour as female scale (Williams & Watson, 1988).

Slide-mounted female 0.5-1.0 mm long; newly emerged specimens pyriform, becoming reniform with posterolateral lobes more or less enclosing pygidium; postsoma often retracted into prosoma. Ultimately pygidium becomes heavily sclerotised. Pygidium quite broad and rounded, with apical recess between 2nd lobes. Outer margin of median lobes sometimes longer than that of 2nd lobes; median lobes surpassed by 2nd, because of apical recess. Median lobes 2 times as long as wide, notched subapically on either side, apex somewhat serrate; separated by about 1/3 lobe width. 2nd lobes usually slightly smaller than median, sometimes notched part way down each side. 3rd lobes 1/2 size of 2nd, sometimes with notch on outer edge, tip rounded. Plates extending well beyond most lobes, deeply fringed, particularly lateral to 3rd lobes: 8-10 plates present beyond 3rd lobe, the outer 2 or 3 shorter and simpler than the others. Anus a wide ellipsoid, about as wide as, and shorter than, median lobe; situated at posterior 2/5 of pygidium.

Dorsal pygidial macroducts 4-5-9.0 times as long as wide; single median macroduct reaching 1/3-1/2 way to anus; 1 marginal macroduct present between between median and 2nd lobes on each side, 2 between 2nd and 3rd, 2 between 3rd lobe and dorsal marginal seta of 4th segment, and 1-2 present between dorsal marginal setae of 4th and 5th segments. Submarginal macroducts forming 3 poriferous furrows on each side; 2-4 macroducts present between segments 7 and 8, 6-8 between segments 6 and 7, and 5-7 present on the 5th segment. Segments 2 and 3 each with 3-4, and segment 1 with 2 or 3marginal macroducts 3-4 times as long as wide present on each side, which become heavily sclerotised in mature specimens.

Venter of pygidium with 1-4 groups of perivulvular pores present, 1-9 in each anterolateral group, 0-3 in each posterolateral group, total of 2-22. Microducts few, submarginal or submedian, mostly located on abdominal segments; 1 present near each spiracle. Spiracles moderately sclerotised. Antennae each with several sclerotised spines and 1 robust seta; pair of setae between antennae unusually and robust.
