Diagnostic Notes
Adult Female

Body not reniform; prosoma not expanded postero-laterally. Pygidial margin with paraphyses arising from bases of lobes. Dorsal ducts 1-barred. Second and third lobes never bilobed. Gland spines absent. Median, second and third lobes present. Plates present between median lobes, and lateral to lobes; not elaboratedly fringed. Plate between lobes not chelate. Anus situated about one third or one quarter length of pygidium from apex, the space always longer than twice diameter of anus. Second and third lobes developed to some extent, not represented by mere points. Paraphyses very small, shorter than median lobes.

Juvenile

First instar having a posterior pygidium and at least one pair of pygidial lobes; lacking setae on the femur. Antennae 5- or 6-segmented. Legs well developed. Covers with two general types: those that are composed of a filamentous secretion or a simple transparent layer, and those that are composed of two parts, a cap that is formed of fine waxy filaments, and a series of concentric rings that are formed of thick secretory material. The rings are attached to the edge of the cap as the first instar enlarges.

Second instar: Antennae 1-segmented. Legs absent or vestigial; Second instar female incorporates the cover and shed skin of the first instar and adds secretory material as the body enlarges. The cover of the second instar male usually smaller and more elongate than the cover of the second instar female and sometimes felt-like with one to three longitudinal ridges.
