Eyes compound; antennae short, the flagellum of 2 segments; upper margin of the frontal lobe not continuous with the lateral or 'post-scutellar' carinae; lateral margins of the 1st epimeron lacking a carina and furrow except in opacum where the groove is morphologically underneath the lateral margin of the epimeron; telson reaching or nearly reaching the tips of the uropods; outline of pereion and pleon continuous; 1st 2 pairs of pleopods with pseudotracheae.
