Diagnostic Notes
Female

Body cylindrical, tapering towards extremities, slightly arcuate when fixed, enclosed in circular sheath attached at head end, excretory pore, vulva, anus, and sometimes at tail end; maximum width of body and sheath about 27 and 30 µm, respectively. Sheath annuli smooth but sometimes with numerous longitudinal indentations, 3-4 µm wide near mid-body; lateral fields absent. Total number of sheath or body annuli vary 111-152.

Lip region anteriorly flattened, with 2 annuli; anterior annulus angular and directed forward, posterior annulus rounded and almost continuous with body annuli; labial framework hexaradiate, sclerotised; labial disc slightly setoff or inconspicuous, rounded on top. Stylet length 53-90 µm; cone about 87% total length; basal knobs anteriorly directed, anchor-shaped, 5-7 µm across and about 3 µm wide. Dorsal gland opening 5-7 µm behind stylet base. Oesophagus criconematoid with huge median bulb 14-16 µm wide, continuous with wide precorpus; isthmus short and broad, enveloped by nerve ring; basal bulb short, slightly wider than isthmus, rounded at base. Excretory pore on 29-39 annuli from anterior end. Vulva 11 µm wide transverse slit, on 12-15 annuli from tail end; no lateral vulval flaps or vulval sheath. Vagina directed inward and forward. Ovary one, anteriorly outstretched (rarely with one flexure), sometimes to oesophagus, with oocytes in single row except in multiplication zone. Spermatheca small, offset, usually with small, rounded sperms. Eggs 67-71 × 16-18 µm. Anus 2-6 annuli behind vulva, 6-11 annuli from tail end. Tail conoid with terminal annulus smoothly rounded or subcylindrical with hemispherical annulated tip.

Male

Markedly different from female: slender and lacking cuticular sheath. Spear and oesophagus degenerated. Annuli fine, about 1.5 µm wide at mid-body. Lateral fields 1/4 body width, with 4 lines, inner ones more distinct than outer ones. Lip region elevated, conoid-truncate, continuous with body, with 3-6 annuli plus a labial disc. Testis single, outstretched. Spicules slender, arcuate, cephalated, with pointed tips, 23-28 µm long. Gubernaculum simple, trough-shaped, 4-5 µm long. Bursa reduced with coarse crenate margins, ending before tail tip. Tail subcylindrical with rounded end, nearly as long as spicules, with 17-23 ventral annuli; anal lips protruding. Phasmids not seen.

Juveniles

Head annuli as in females. In all juvenile stages except 2nd stage, cuticle with 12 longitudinal rows of pointed, scale-like spines. 2nd-stage juvenile possess spineless cuticle.
