Adult about 13 mm long, dull-brown, and covered with scales. Forewings with numerous, almost parallel, dark brown lines, and with a conspicuous fringe of hairs. Larva in a case which is open both ends. Mature larva 25 mm long, white, with brown head and pronotum and a brown area on the mesonotum. Pupa in a case made of plant fibres arranged more or less longitudinally.
