Disease

Leaf spots circular to angular, up to 1 cm diam., often pale brown or grey, with a reddish brown margin.

Morphology

Conidiophores in fasicles, mostly on lower leaf surface, pale brown, 20–200 × 3–6.5 µm. Conidiophores usually continue to elongate, producing successive conidia, and hence 2 or more widely spaced prominent scars. Conidia 50–150 × 3–5.5 µm, hyaline, 5–15-septate, smooth, acicular to obclavate, straight or curved, apex acute, basal cell truncate with distinct scar.

Note This fungus is considered by Crous & Braun (2003) to be a synonym of Cercospora apii sensu lato.
