Disease

Leaf spots circular, up to 5 mm diam., pale brown or grey with dark brown or purplish margin.

Morphology

Conidiophores arising from black stromata mainly on upper surface of leaf, in fasicles, pale brown, 30–300 × 4–7 µm. Conidiophores usually continue to elongate producing successive conidia, and hence 2 or more widely spaced scars. Conidia 30–220 × 3–6 µm, hyaline, 1–20-septate, smooth, acicular, straight or slightly curved, tip rounded, basal cell truncate with distinct scar.

Note This fungus is considered by Crous & Braun (2003) to be Cercospora apii sensu lato.
