Diagnostic Notes
Disease

Brown leaf spot, ghost spot, false spot. Spots on older leaves, reddish brown, circular or irregular, diffuse blotches on either leaf surface, sometimes with a blackish, diffuse centre, usually less obvious on opposite surface of leaf. Sometimes surrounded by a yellow halo, or with a dark brown diffuse border. Spots up to 15 mm diam., much smaller when there are many spots on the one leaf.

Morphology

Conidiophores up to 1,350 µm long or even longer, 3–4(–5) µm thick, usually unbranched, septate, pale to mid brown, straight or flexuous, with terminal and intercalary swellings (5–10 µm wide) on which are conspicuous and thickened conidial scars (1–1.8(–2) µm diam.). Conidia 12–30 × 6–8(–9) µm, 1–3-septate (rarely 4 or 5-septate), pale to mid brown, smooth, cylindrical or ellipsoidal, often constricted in the middle, solitary or in branched chains and hence may have one or more markedly protruding scars at either end.
