Description

This pest is phloeophagous (xylophagous) both in the larval and adult stages. Host plants: Olive (Olea europaea), Fraxinus spp., privet (Ligustrum sp.), lilac (Syringa), Phyllirea sp.

Phloeotribus scarabaeoides causes considerable damage to olive trees in the Mediterranean region by cutting feeding or regeneration galleries in small twigs and branches. The shoot is hollowed out and dies. (Source: Beaver 1973 see references).

A detailed study of the biology of Phloeotribus scarabaeoides was made by Russo (1938) see references.
