Description

Within its natural range in Asia, Callidiellum rufipenne infests a number of plants in the family Cupressaceae. These include Hinoki cypress, Chamaecyparis obtuse; Sawara cypress, Chamaecyparis pisifera; Japanese cedar, Cryptomeria japonica; Cypress, Cupressus sp. and false arborvitae, Thujopsis dolobrata. Firs, Abies spp. and pines, Pinus spp. (Family Pinaceae) have also been reported as hosts (Hoebeke 1999).

Common juniper, Juniperus communis is the host plant where this insect has become established in Italy. Monterrey cypress, Cupressus macrocarpa is the reported host in Spain (Hoebeke 1999).

Infestations in North America have been found in arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis and eastern red cedar, Juniperus virginiana (Hoebeke 1999).
