Diagnostic Notes
Unmounted material: Body elongate-oval to nearly round, sometimes distinctly asymmetrical if located against a leaf vein; rather flat, with a series of faint lateral ridges; young adults generally yellowish to pale-green, developing a series of brown spots which take on a distinct pattern, with a mid-dorsal line, a mediolateral line and with several rays between latter and margin, particularly over the spiracles; mature adults may finally turn dark brown. However, markings  highly variable, even within single populations. Dorsum usually with a series of small, flat, glassy, flake-like plates. Stigmatic clefts small but distinct.

Slide mounted material: Body usually elongate-oval, with distinct stigmatic indentations; anal cleft about 1/6-1/7th body length. Length 1.5-6.0 mm, width 0.7-4.0 mm.
