Distinguishing features: Body dark green to almost black, siphunculi dark. Antennal tubercles small, no larger than median area of frons.

Related species: The genus Schizaphis is related to Rhopalosiphum and comprises about 40 species, mainly from Europe but with many species from the Old World tropics and a few from North America.

Life history: Anholocyclic, although the widespread species is possibly the parthenogenetic form of a holocyclic heteroeceious Asian species of which the primary host is Pyrus communis
