The Andean potato weevil, Premnotrypes vorax, is a major cause of damage to potato crops in the Andean regions of South America.

Premnotrypes species are the most important pests of potatoes, sometimes causing complete destruction of unsprayed crops. P. vorax is considered to be the most important pest of potato in Ecuador and has also been found to be very important in Colombia and Venezuela.
