Spikelets persistent, broadly oblong to semi-elliptic, 2–3.5 mm long, in clusters of 2–4 spikelets, each cluster subtended by 1–5 bristles each 4–15 mm long. Lower glume c. 30% spikelet length, 1–3-nerved, broadly ovate, acute or subacute; upper 65–80% spikelet length, 5–7-nerved, elliptical, subacute to obtuse. Lower lemma sterile, as long as spikelet, 5-nerved; palea a hyaline scale or absent. Upper lemma bisexual, disarticulating above the rest of the spikelet; as long as spikelet, oblong to broadly elliptical; palea similar. Grain elliptical to globose-ellipsoid, dorsally slightly compressed, 1.5–2 mm long, whitish.
