This is the first record of the genus Halictus in Australia.  The generic characters that separate Halictus from Lasioglossum are:

Halictus: Distal forewing as strong as first submarginal crossvein. Tomentum along apical margin of tergites.

Lasioglossum: Third and sometimes second submarginal crossveins weaker than first. Tomentum along basal margin of tergites.

Father Andreas W. Ebmer (Austria) the world expert in this subgenus has determined the species to be smaragdulus.
