Adult is 3-4 mm, brownish red or russet, with the ventral side black. 12 black spots are found on the elytra arranged into 4 rows, fusion of spots is common.  Legs red, sometimes with dark markings on femur. Head is red occasionally with a black spot on the frons.  Pronotum is red with or without 1-3 transversal black spots. Palpi and antennae are red.

Body is round, upper part strongly convex and ventral surface flat. Antennae have 11 segments, with a short massive scape, a slender pedicel and long flagellum whose last 3 segments are larger than the others forming a club. Head, thorax and elytra are densely, finely granulated and covered with fine dense hairs lying close to the surface. On the ventral side of the abdomen 5 segments can be discerned. Femur and tibia are dorsoventrally flat with 4 tarsal segments; the last segment has 2 claws.
